Tijuana, Mexico, October 13, 2013 - The name of Blanca Garcia is a standard gold in Mexican Volleyball history.

As a player she was considered as the best in the history of the sport in her country. Garcia, an emblematic athlete and icon of Mexico Golden Era was present at the FIVB Women’s U23 World Championship Finals.

She, who played at the 1968 Olympic Games and also at the 1974 World Championships was one of the VIP attendants to the Closing Ceremony.

“We wish the best to all of you, it has been a great tournament, congratulations,” said Garcia, who also has been recognized as one of the greatest players of all time by the Norceca Confederation.

Just a couple of months ago, She participated at a special tribute ceremony in Mexico City, that was dedicated to the members of the 1968 Olympic squad at the “Juan de la Barrera Gym” during the Men’s Pan American Cup.

Some other Olympic volleyball athletes like Osuna, attended to the competition at the same gym where He played 45 years ago. In Baja California, Osuna Brambila, who studied a sports career in Bulgaria, was in charge of the Local Organising Committee in the City of Mexicali.

The organisation of the U23 World Championship in Mexico was something special for the country. This was the first time that the category is part of Age Group competitions in a year when the National Federation (that Garcia represents) celebrates its first 80 years after being founded in 1933 by Professor Juan Snyder.

The life of Blanca Garcia has been full of rich details in the history of national and international of volleyball. “I began as a player after being selected for two reasons, I was too big and too little at the same time, when got detected,” She remebered. “Why? I was too young but at the same time I was tall and was selected to play the sport.”

Garcia was received by the Local Organising Committee of the championship, and had the time to share some memories and experiences with Osuna.

Garcia had also the chance to talk with Norceca President and FIVB First Executive Vice-President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz after the Ceremony where China received the Gold Medal, Dominican Republic the Silver and Japan the Bronze Medal.

Also the All Star team was recognized by the FIVB Control Committee and the Local Organisers.
