China’s blocking was the key for the victory

China's team players celebrate after winning the championship point at Baja California High Performance Center on Saturday night

Tijuana, Mexico, October 12, 2013 – China won the intense battle for the gold medal relying on their blocking skills and overall ability, according to captain Yao Di.

Yao Di, captain of China: We are very happy to win this world championship. We prepared a lot for this. All the three sets were really intense. We tried to do everything well in terms of preparation for blocking and defense, without missing any detail.”

Brayelin Martinez, captain of Dominican Republic: Congratulations to China. We didn't play with intensity in the first two sets. In the last one we fought hard and tried to improve a little bit, but the match went out of our hands.

Xu Jiande, coach of China: Dominican Republic is a great team a very strong team. This match had a very high level and it could have been decided on either side. Tonight the luck favored us.

Marcos Kwiek, coach of Dominican Republic: It's difficult to talk when you lose, but this silver medal has a great value for us. As a small country we finished ahead of the really big ones like USA, Japan or Brazil. These girls have worked hard during these years. Congratulations to China.
