Turkish service was key to control Germany

Seyma Ercan of Turkey controls the ball while libero Hatice Orge keeps and eye on the play.

Tijuana, Mexico, October 11, 2013 - A good service strategy was key for the Turkish team that defeated Germany in straight sets on Friday. It was not easy for the team coached by Mehme Bedestenlioglu and his captain Gözde Yilmaz, who recognized how hard is to face a German squad.

Gözde Yilmaz, captain of Turkey: It’s not easy to play against Germany, because they are a very strong team and keep fighting until the end. We had to serve well and never lose control.

Mehme Bedestenlioglu, coach of Turkey: This second part of the tournament is very important for us. We played at good and high level after we lost against a very strong team like Japan. Our players did it well and had a good performance.

Jennifer Geerties, captain of Germany: They had a lot of pressure in service and we had many problems in reception. We could not be able to play well and did so many mistakes.

Jens Tietbohl, coach of Germany: Congratulations to Turkey. We made too many mistakes on the court today and we could not even play against them. There were a lot of mistakes by us.
