Fast win for Brazil in straight sets


Mara Leao scored 12 poins along with Gabriella Souza. Leao had also four block kills.

Mexicali, Mexico, October 8, 2013 - Brazil defeated Germany and improved their record to 3-1 after a three-setter victory defined by scores of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-21.


Mara Leao and Gabriella Souza were the top scorers for the South American team with 12 points a piece, while Glauciele Silva scored 11. Captain Ellen Braga finished with 9 but was the top server with 4 aces.


Germany had some injury problems with their captain Jennifer Geerties and Katharina Schwabe who didn't play on Tuesday. Saskia Radzuweit took the control of the team on the court, while Carina Aullenbrock finished with 17 to be the best player of the match. 


However Brazil had a dominant block strategy surpassing Germany 14-5. The service game was 7-3 also for the South Americans who capitalized 23 error-points given by the Europeans. 


Brazilian Coach Claudio Lopes Pinheiro rested Larissa Souza, Isabella Paquardi and Carla Ferreira, while Priscila Heldes and Sonaly Cidrao entered as substitutes in the third set.


German coach Jens Tietbohl started with Saskia Radzuweit, Denise Imoudu, Lisa Gründing, Leonie Schwermann, Carina Aullenbrock and Rebecca Schäperklaus. Irina Kemmsies entered in substitution in the first set as well as Alisha Ossowski, while Wiebke Silge entered in the second and third.


Brazil will face USA on Wednesday and Germany will play against Cuba.
