Press release

The serve and blocking game was the key for Dominican team

Brayelin Martinez and Marianne Fersola were impressive at the net for the Dominican Republic against Italy

Tijuana, Mexico, October 8, 2013 – The aggressive serves led to strong blocking and the Dominican Republic scored a big victory over Italy in the fourth day of the competition.

Brayelin Martinez, Captain of Dominican Republic: We feel very good after this victory which an important one for us. What happened today was that we improved our serves and blocks after the second set. That was the big difference.

Alessia Genari, Captain of Italy: We lost the concentration after losing the second set that we were leading. We made many mistakes and didn’t battle. The blocking of Dominican Republic stopped our attack. I am very sad.

Marcos Kwiek, Coach of Dominican Republic: I feel good because we added three more points and are almost in the semifinals. We made some adjustments after many errors in the first two sets and served really aggressively. From then on, the team really played good volleyball.

Luca Cristofani, Coach of Italy: We played well the first two sets but we don’t have the conditions to play against the Dominican Republic. Elizabeth (Brayelin Martinez) was impossible to stop and the other girl was also great. Now we are going to play in the second tournament and I hope we can finish fifth or sixth.
