Nothing to lose, a lot to learn for Kenyan squad

Kenyan coach Sammy Mulinge talks to his players after a set during the match against Cuba.

Mexicali, Mexico, October 8, 2013.- Kenyan Captain Gaudencia Makokha remarked that despite the loss against Cuba, her team fought hard and showed a big improvement, while Cuban captain Daymara Lescay stated that their rivals played with good quality, but fortunately could solve the match in their favor.

Gaudencia Makokha, Captain of Kenya: I think since the beginning of the tournament, we lost without giving an extra in our performance. But today we did that. We expected to  play against a team with a strong block and service. We had nothing to lose and tried to do our best and played well.

Daymara Lescay, Captain of Cuba: Kenya played very well and had a good serve today. But we tried to adjust and set the conditions to the end of the match and could achieve a victory.

Sammy Mulinge, Coach of Kenya: We tried to put some pressure against Cuba, but they are so tall and are a very young and talented team and I am sure they will have a great future. Afterall I feel good about our girls, because we improved a lot and made more than 20 points in two sets.

Juan Carlos Gala, Coach of Cuba: Congratulations to Kenia, they knew how to take a risk and they did that, we won but had some fouls. As I told you yesterday, sometimes your tactical plan cannot work when playing with young players because of those ups and downs.
