It’s great to win, but also to play with respect: Lopes Pinheiro

Brazilian players offer some gifts to members of the Kenyan team after the match they played on Monday at Mexicali State Auditorium.

Mexicali, Mexico, October 7 2013 - Brazilian coach Claudio Lopes Pinheiro remarked how important is to participate at the U23 World Championship and beyond any result, praised the great effort of his rivals. After the match, the South American players offered some gifts to their African colleagues as a sign of respect and friendship.

Claudio Lopes Pinheiro, Coach of Brazil: Congratulations to Kenya for the participation at this Championship. It is important for them as it is for us. I’ve said that we haven’t had too much time of preparation for this competition but tried to improve, serve better and play respectfully.

Sammy Mulinge, Coach of Kenya: I think we showed a lot of respect for Brazil and were a little bit afraid of playing against a team like them. We scored less than 10 points in the first two sets and made only 10 in the last game.

Gaudencia Makokhi, captain of Kenya: Today this wasn’t a good match. We made less points than yesterday, and we expect to improve in the next one.

Ellen Braga, Captain of Brazil:  It was a good match for us. We played better, worked with our serve that was very well as we tried to be more accurate.
