Brazilians outscore Kenya, improve to 2-1

Brazilian captain Ellen Braga spikes against Kenya. Braga finished with 10 points.

Mexicali, Mexico, October 7 2013 - Brazil returned to the path of victory after outscoring Kenya in straight sets (25-8, 25-7, 25-10). 

The South American team recovered from a previous loss against China and now are 2-1 after three days of competition.

Francynne Jacintho topped with 16 points, while captain Ellen Braga closed with 10. Mara Leao and Larissa Souza finished with 6 apiece.

On the Kenyan side Violet Makuto scored 6 points. 

The Brazilian squad had no problems in terms of attack with 32 solid kills against 11 by Kenya and 9-2 in team blocks. Jacintho blocked for kills in four times, while Gabriella Souza did in two.

Serving wasn’t either a problem with a 11-2 difference in favour of the team coached by the 2012 Olympic Assistant Coach, Claudio Lopes Pinheiro. Ellen Braga aced in four chances and Larissa Souza in two. 

Kenyans also tried to work with their service in a couple of times with Eglay Kulova as well as Joy Lusenaka, while captain Gaudencia Makokha had two block kills. 

She also gave one point in favour of her team: despite the result Makokha worked hard on reception with six excellent attempts, and a total of 16 for the unit coached by Sammy Mulinge against 6 by Brazil.

In the end, there were some positive aspects, according to the technical staff of the Africans that are the only ones representing their continent at the first edition of the Women’s U23 World Championship.
