Bulgaria maintain 100% record with Tunisia victory

Bulgaria needed to work hard to break Tunisia's resistance

Uberlandia, Brazil, October 8, 2013 - Bulgaria were made to work hard to keep their unbeaten pool A record at the Men's U23 World Championship with a 3-0 win (30-28, 21-18, 21-12) against Tunisia on day three of competition at the Arena Presidente Tancredo Neves.

The first set of the match tied the longest in the competition so far, with Bulgaria winning it 30-28. Bulgaria made fewer errors in the set than Tunisia and it was opposite Jani Jeliazkov whose spike was eventually blocked out for the set win.

It was just as close in the second set, although Tunisia's attacks were less effective than in the first with Bulgaria keeping the tournament's top scorer, Mohamed Arbi Ben Abdallah, relatively quiet. Middle blocker Ventsislav Ragin was Bulgaria's most prominent net defender as they took the set 21-18.

After five-set matches in the previous two days and a marathon first set, Tunisia's level dropped off significantly towards the end of the third set as Bulgaria wrapped up the set 21-12 and the match 3-0.

Jeliazkov finished with 20 points as the match's top scorer, but Tunisia captain Ben Abdallah scored 14 points to take his tournament-leading total to 61 from three matches.

Day four of competition is the penultimate round of matches with pool A's unbeaten teams Bugaria and hosts Brazil meeting, while Tunisia play Dominican Republic in the day's last match.
