Team profile

For most of the Argentinean players that form the team for the inaugural edition of the FIVB Men's U23 World Championship in Uberlândia, Brazilian soil will probably trigger some of their best ever volleyball memories. In the final 12-players roster chosen by coach Alejandro Grossi, eight of them visited Brazil in 2011 and earned a remarkable silver medal at the FIVB Volleyball U21 World Championship held in Rio.

The list includes current captain Juan Ignacio Finoli, fellow setter Leonardo Plaza Gandini, wing spikers Gustavo Vaca Álvarez, Bruno Vinti, Agustín Ramonda and Nicolás Méndez, middle blocker Federico Franetovich and libero Tomás Ruiz. All of them were part of the most important result ever achieved by an Argentinean national team in a World Championship so far.

Ramonda also features another elite list inside this roster. The Córdoba spiker had its premiere with the senior national team last August, in the South American Championship held also in Brazil (in Cabo Frio), together with opposite Pablo Kukartsev and wing spiker Ezequiel Palacios, being probably the ones to watch on the light-blue and white team.

Looking forward to achieve once more that silver glare, or even more, Argentina prepared for the World Champs participating in the Senior Pan Am Cup in Mexico, where the team earned a bronze medal against older teams, and also held two four-team friendly tournaments in Buenos Aires, together with Russia, Australia and Iran. Argentina nailed the gold medal in the first event but then dropped to a bronze medal in the second one, with Russia as the champion.
