If we had not been favourites, it would have been easier - coach Nikolaev

"Russia beat Brazil at the Olympics and during in the World League; so we had to do it today," says Russia's captain Feoktistov

Ankara, Turkey, September 1, 2013 – It was only natural that after such an impressive 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-20) victory for Russia over Brazil in the final match of the FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship the winning side would be very happy and the losing side would be disappointed.  Here are the post-match statements of the coaches and the captains of the two teams.

Leonardo Carvalho, coach of Brazil: “We were bad in attacking. This was our worst play in this whole championship. Russia deserved to be in the first place; they played very well. I am unhappy, but not about our final place in the championship. We could have played better today.”

Thiago Veloso, captain of Brazil: “I want to congratulate Russia; they played better than us. We were as if we did not come here for playing. We are not happy with this result.”

Mikhail Nikolaev, coach of Russia: ”We have been dominant during all previous games and we felt that we have to win today, but it also created a big psychological pressure on us. Maybe if we had not been favourites, it would have been easier, but our players could deal with this psychological pressure and they could play effectively.”

Egor Feoktistov, captain of Russia: ”Russia beat Brazil at the Olympics and during in the World League. So we had to do it today. We were worrying about this match, but we also prepared hard. We were as an organic whole today which was necessary to play effectively. We also had a good spirit what could help us not to let our opponents to lead. Surely Brazil is a very good team and it just happened that today we could be better. I want to thank my coach and my team for our success.”
