FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

"Players are getting closer to understand each other," says coach Hanson

USA coach Peter Hanson and players Benjamin Patch and Matthew West during post-match interview

Serbia coach Sinisa Reljic:

"It is always difficult to play same team second time. We were in the same group. Especially when you are playing for the 9th 10th. It is very difficult to motivate the players. USA is a good team but we are better than USA. Today's game was much difficult than the first game. We will watch the match between Canada and Japan and see who we will play."

Serbia team captain Uros Kovacevic:

"We started very well against USA. We overcome the first two sets easily. Actually first set was a bit difficult for us. We scored seven points and they reached us then we used our good service. Second set was pretty easy."

USA coach Peter Hanson:

"First of all congratulations to Serbia, they played well. I think USA did very good things tonight. We were technically better than the previous match against Serbia. I think this is something we gain at this level. Our players are getting closer and closer to really understanding about the game and how it is played. The momentum shifts and how they have to play at the end of the game. When they fully understand that, we will be a very good team. We are at the end of the tournament so we are clearly running out of time. But we improved after every match. Matthew played wonderfully, Benjamin did a nice job. We are better in most paces in our game. We just have little things to take care of, to be a team like Serbia."

USA team captain Matthew West:

"Serbia is a good team. They had the first two sets we have created practice of volleyball movement. Practically, we were constructing players in the set two. And in the third set we came out strong and we were firing and all so. I think at that point it was just too late that Serbia had the momentum shift. But we stole the energy again in the fourth set. They are experienced, we just happened to lose, we couldn’t hold our beliefs. They are a good blocking team and they have a good coach also."
