Egypt claim second victory against China in Epic five- setter

Egyptian players celebrate victory over China in the classification match at men's U21 in Izmir

Izmir, Turkey, August 31, 2013 – Egypt claimed their tournament's second victory against China after grueling five setter 3-2 (29-31, 25-23, 17-25, 25-13, 19-17) in 121 minutes in the classification for 13 to 16th positions at FIVB Men's U21 World Championship at Ataturk Hall in Izmir, Turkey on Saturday.

After this Victory Egypt qualified to play for 13 and 14th position against the winner from Tunisia v Mexico match, while China relegated to play for 15 and 16 positions against the losers of the same match.

This is the second win for Egypt against their Asian counterparts after the first in the group A stage of this tournament in another epic five- setter.

Opposite spiker Islam Abdelkader led the match scorers with impressive 27 points followed by the middle blocker Mohamed Masoud who contributed 22 points. From the Chinese side opposite Zhimin Leng led the scorers with 19 points.

One of the main key factors for the victory were the 19 successful blocking attempts for the Egyptians team during the match and arranging the quick attacks to disturb the Chinese blockers from positions 2 and 3.

The first set was very competitive as it went point by point with Egypt depending on their middle blockers in the quick attacks from the center of the net, while China used more their outside hitters. After the draw 24-24, China was the better side in scoring the crucial points till they won the set 31-29.
Egypt improved their blocking in the second set and succeeded to lead throughout the set by 3 or 4 points till China came back at the end making it a tight set again as Egypt won narrowly 25-23 to tie the score 1-1.

China emerged again in the third set with their opposite Zhimin Leng doing a big role along with Zhenghui Liang to lead china to third set win 25-17. The fourth set was one side for the Egyptians with Mohamed Masoud and Hisham Ewis doing the biggest role so they won to a wide win 25-13 to extend the match to tiebreak.

Again the tiebreak started competitive till China had a narrow lead 8-7 at court turn before Egypt regained the lead 14-12. They lost three match points before they won the hard set 19-17.
