Russia's Poletaev dreams second gold in 2 months

Russia's Victor Poletaev usually fly higher than any other opponent

Izmir, Turkey, August, 2013- On July 7, 2013 Russian opposite Victor Poletaev was celebrating with his team in Mexico the gold medal they won against China in the final. He was also the celebrating the prize of the best opposite spiker in the competition.

Now on September 1, he will be aiming to set one of the rarest achievements, it is to collect the second gold medal in only 2 months time if he succeeds to add second gold at Men's U21 World Championship in Turkey.

In the tournament's preliminary round in Izmir he had his best performance in his team and came out as his team best scorer and one of the top 5 scorers in the tournament. Against Brazil it was an extraordinary day for the Russian promising star as he led his team to epic five setter win and scoring impressive 28 points. His team continued successfully to lead Pool D before they took over Tunisia in the second round.

"Now Russian team is focused on to the gold medal," Poletaev said ahead of the quarterfinal match against India on Friday. "We want to continue our way to the final and I think we deserve to be there."

"It will be my second gold medal in 2 months if we win the trophy, That's unbelievable to me specially. When I earned the gold medal in Mexico, I was immediately thinking of that day. Volleyball will earn me the best moment in my life if we achieve that".

"Before the championship started, we just focused on the group matches in Izmir; we wanted to make a good start. Right now, we are thinking of the trophy. We will do our best to win gold medal.”

This is not Poletaev's first time in Turkey, his parents had holiday before in Antalya, “Turkey is a beautiful country and I think it looks like Russia. Izmir is an amazing city. I love the view of the sea at nights” he says.

The young Russian player is continuing his education while he's giving his all to the volleyball. He is a student in Kazan University in Tourism major. He has great skills in jumping. His brother and mother were athletics, coming from a sport family helps him to be strong “My brother and mother were athletics. So they wanted me to be strong”.

He was playing high jump in the high school and this helped him a lot to be usually above all the players to fly in volleyball courts.
