FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

Press release

"We did not come here to win the World Championship," says Tunisia coach

Press conference after the match between Russia and Tunisia

Russia coach Mikhail Nikolaev:

"We prepared ourselves match by match. Today we played well. However, from now on we have no chance to do mistake. We confidently won the game. We are getting closer to our main purpose. We have to be strong in each match."

Russia captain Egor Feoktistov:

"From today every game is important because its now playoff matches. First set against Tunisia was very difficult but after we were strong."

Tunisia coach Mohamed Mounir Gara:

"Congratulations to Russia. They played very well and deserved to win. We didn’t come here to win the World Championship. We came here to improve our style of playing, performance and the team work. We played against Serbia, Canada and USA. We were planning to win the match against Serbia. Even if we lost, we played good. Against Canada, I think we deserved to win. Even though we won the match against USA, we didn’t consider to win against USA and all the pool would change like this. For us it was a big surprise to play against Russia. However, it was a strong game. I believe, we managed to play against them."

Tunisia player Malek Chekir:

"Before the match, we played to win. We had our self-confidence. However, a we were less experienced in the first set. Then we lost our confidence to win the game. After the first set we were effected psychologically. Then we came back in the second set. In the third set we couldn’t play in the crucial points so Russia won today."
