Both teams happy with their performance after Mexico v Iran match

Mexico and Iran shake hands

Ankara, Turkey, August 26, 2013 – Both sides expressed content with their performance after Iran defeated Mexico by 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-17) in a Pool B match at the FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship in Ankara.  These are the coaches’ and the captains’ first words after the game.

Jorge Lopez, coach of Mexico: “We have played a good game and we feel good because we played on the same level with Iran. Of course, they are more mature and have more experience, and we need to focus more on defence; we need more patience. Even though we have lost this game, I think we need to see not only the result of the game but also the fact that we grow with each match. And now we are waiting for the result of the last game in our pool in order to start preparing for our next games.”

Jonathan Ponce, captain of Mexico: “I believe that we played well today and we experienced a high-level game. Despite our loss, we are happy with our performance and we have shown that we can keep fighting.”

Farhad Nafarzadeh, coach of Iran: “We started this championship with a win. And it is very important for us to finish our pool in the first place. Mexico played very well today and made our job harder. I want to congratulate them all. My players fought very well for the victory. We won the match with some very good playing.”

Javad Hosseinabadi, captain of Iran: “We knew and saw that Mexico is a good team. They were on the court to win today. Our coach made some changes in the line-up today, since some of us were tired. It was a tough and close match. My team-mates are getting tired each day but we have to rest tomorrow and will be ready for the next round.”
