Bulgaria defeat Peru 3-0, 9th place will be their goal

Peru Cristina Cuba's tip to avoid the dangerous Bulgaria Mira Todorova's block

Brno, Czech Republic, June 29, 2013 – The last match played in Vodova hall on Saturday decided the teams which on Sunday will compete for the 9th final position: Bulgaria will face Chinese Taipei, while their opponents from today, Peru, are paired with host Czech Republic for the chance of the 11th position.

Even if Bulgaria apparently dominated the match with Peru (3-0: 27-25, 25-27, 25-21), the South Americans had some chances to go for a longer match. They were leading the first set when Bulgaria managed to reach them 24-all and did not fail the set ball.

Apart from a second set, which was a sort of solo song for the Europeans, Peru tried again to do their best in the third set, started with grit to fly 1-4, then 17-19. But the Bulgarian wing spiker Gergana Dimitrova used all her killer instinct to score in any difficult situation, while the players from Peru were not able to close the break points. Mira Todorova (best scorer with 17 points) and Silvana Chausheva (14) made a real difference for Dimo Tonev’s team, which blocked and served much better than the Peruvians.
