Brno, Czech Republic, June 29, 2013 – Egypt secured their classification at 13th or 14th place of the Women’s U20 World Championship after their straight victory in the African classic against Algeria (25-14, 25-21, 25-17). Algeria will have to play on Sunday with the goal of the 15th place.
The first set was an easy deal for world No. 12 Egypt, facing an Algerian team which was offering a weak opposition and 10 errors in total. However Algeria was ahead of Egypt in the second set, showing a good attitude in attack, when they lost their concentration. Egypt immediately reacted to take the lead again and win the set thanks to a strong block and 2 aces. Algeria did not repeat their performance in the last part of the match: with Egypt captain Aya Elshamy playing the leading role (and becoming the game best scorer, 15 points), Egypt closed the match in 23 minutes, scoring 12 blocks compared to 3 from Algeria.
