Brno, Czech Republic, June 29, 2013 – Agripina Martinez, the Dominican Republic team manager taking part in her 17th FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship in Brno has another job, as well as her role as team manager.

Martinez is the mother of two players, Jineiry and Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez who play together under her charge for Dominican Republic.

“For me it is not difficult to combine the role of mother and the role of team manager,” Martinez says. “It is as though I didn’t just have two daughters, but 12.” she smiles.
“I speak to all the girls with the same passion and I take care of them in the same way because they are a group and they have to grow together.

“Even though I am always with my daughters at home and then at the gym for practice, they don’t feel any pressure,” Martinez reveals. “At home I am their mother, at the gym I am their team manager. It is my job; my girls have no special treatment.”

The two sisters have different roles: Jinery is a middle blocker while Brayelin Elizabeth is a spiker.

“They have different qualities and a different personalities," Martinez said. "I hope they will make it to the senior national team. Their dream is to play at the Olympics. However, they have a long way to go.

Volleyball binds the Martinez family together, but, it is not all about Volleyball. Agripina Martinez also has a son who is a famous baseball player.

“Miguel plays baseball in the national league. He is just 21. He hopes to make it to the USA in a few years,” Agripina said. “And that is not all: my brother is a former professional basketball player who played in the NBA for the Atlanta Hawks and was captain of the national basketball team. Now he is vice-minister of sports in the Dominican Republic.”

Jinery and Brayelin Elizabeth are still young players and have a very bright future ahead of them. However, Brayelin Elizabeth already shines out: she is the top scorer of the 2013 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship.
