Czech Republic win the tie break against Egypt to qualify for classification 9-12

Czech Klara Melicharova spikes against Egypt

Brno, Czech Republic, June 28, 2013 – Cheered by 2000 fans, host Czech Republic won their match against Egypt in five set (25-13, 25-23, 24-26, 19-25, 15-12) to get a spot in Saturday’s classification matches from 9th to 12th place.

While in the first set Czech Republic literally dominated the field of play (no blocks or aces from the other court), Egypt was more convinced of their strength in the second set. However, Marek Ondrej’s team experience gave them the chance to close the second set 25-23. Czech Republic lost their leadership in the third set when Egypt advanced 13-16. Czech team had second setter Marie Kurkova in to change the tactics and, cheered tirelessly by their fans, the home team paired Egypt 24-24. Then Mai Moustafa’s block (24-25) and her clever tip (24-26) gave the third set to Egypt. Egypt wanted a 5th set and they built up this possibility with a 2-11 start in the fourth set. Czech Republic bravely froze Egypt on their set ball for three times with a triple ace of the jump server Klara Melicharova, but Aya Elshamy smashed the Mikasa to postpone the challenge to the tie break.

Heading 9-5, Czech Republic sealed the set and with their second match ball (15-12) they secured their place for Saturday schedule.
