Algeria: a dream called Rio

Algeria celebrate their victory against Nigera at the Women's U20 World Championship

Brno, Czech Republic, June 28, 2013 - Algeria is one of the African teams playing at the FIVB Women’s World Championship in Brno together with Egypt and Nigeria. The Algerian conquered the spot for the tournament for the third times after 2001 and 2003, thus they came here to compete with the best team U20 of the world, a tough job for the girls.

Anyway, most of them will be playing not just with this team, but also at the U18 World Championship that will take place in Thailand from July 26 to August 4: Yasmine Abderrahim, Nawel Hammouche and Zaidi Amel in fact after this tournament will play with their youth national team.

Algeria is a young team but the girls are on the right way to grow in the next future: here in Brno they won just one match against their African fellow Nigeria so far, but thanks to that result they qualified for the round 16.

For sure they had to face taller and more experienced team as Brazil and Italy, but their aim here was to grow as a group. Some of the girls want to become professional in the future, maybe to play in important leagues as the Italian or the Turkish, but the biggest dream they have is the next Olympics.

In London the senior team qualified, so this group of girls wants to be the next squad representing Algeria at the most important volleyball tournament. They will meet other good teams from Africa as Tunisia or Egypt for a place in Rio, but they want to be ready for that moment to keep their dream alive.
