FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

Turkey improve their record to 4-0 by beating Algeria in straight sets

Turkey celebrate their fourth consecutive win at FIVB Women's U20 World Champs. The Turks proved to strong for Algeria.

Brno, Czech Republic, June 25, 2013 – 2011 Girls’ U18 World champions Turkey continue their winning streak at Women’s U20 World Champs with their fourth consecutive win. The Europeans eased past Algeria 25-18, 25-14, 25-15 in Tuesday’s second match at Brno’s Vodova sports hall. Turkey finish on top of Pool D with a perfect 4-0 win-loss ratio.

Asli Kalac topped the scorers with a total of 14 points: 9 spikes, 2 blocks and 3 service winners. Seyma Ercan added another 11 points for Turkey. Captain Damla Cakiroglu enjoyed a rest day.

The North Africans started well but could not cope with the power and precision the Europeans displayed. Even though coach Gökhan Edman tried some different line-ups, Turkey proved too strong for their opponents. However, 24 mistakes showed a certain instability in Turkey’s game.

Turkey complete their FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship campaign with a 4-0 record after the first round while Algeria drop to 1-3 but still have the chance to make it to the second stage.
