At the 2013 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship Gabi helped her team to
win the first two matches with outstanding performances in attack. However, it
is not her first time at such a big competition: “I already played the last
World Grand Prix with the senior national team but it is always a big challenge
for me because I want to play well. There I had the opportunity to play with
one of my heroes, Sheila Castro. I like how she can change the hit every time
depending on the situation, she has such great abilities, and she is a wonderful
person.”
Gabi is still a teenager. As all her friends, she likes social networks
like Twitter and Facebook, where she has an incredible audience following her.
“I think I have about four fan pages on Facebook, and on Twitter more than
three thousands followers: it is a big responsibility but at the same time I
love that all those fans follow me. For example I saw that some fans were
watching our matches here in Czech Republic even if in Brazil it was night!”
Fans are important but for Brazil’s future star, the aim is to keep on
playing well to make a dream come true: “The next Olympics will be in my home
country, and I would be honored to play with my national team. It is a dream
and I hope to have the chance to play in the most important competition for a
volleyball player.”
After two competition days, Gabi is one of the best scorers of her team
at the Women’s U20 World Championship in Brno. Thanks to her spikes, Brazil
have good chances to move to the final phase of the tournament.
