FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

Press release

Even though we won our first two games, we can play better, says Brazil captain

Mexico played better than the USA yesterday but we were ready to fight, said Brazil captain Rosamaria after the match.

Brno, Czech Republic, June 23, 2013 – World No. 2 Brazil cruised to their second straight-set win at 2013 FIVB U20 World Champs by beating Mexico 3-0. Brazil captain Rosamaria still sees room for improvements.

Brazil coach Luizomar De Moura: We began with some troubles today. We are not used to play that early. Our level during the first set was not perfect but then we concentrated more and played with more determination. Although we won the last two sets in style, Mexico was a strong opponent and there will be no easy contenders.

Brazil captain Rosamaria Montibeller: Mexico played better than the USA yesterday but we were ready to fight. I am satisfied with our play in the first two matches but we need to improve our game in several sectors.

Mexico coach Estanislao Vachino: For sure, my players felt a little bit tired after their two tiebreak thrillers on Friday and Saturday. However, this is not an excuse. We are used to train hard. In the third set, I gave some key players a rest to be ready for our duel with USA on Monday.

Mexico captain Alejandra Isiordia: We led 19-17 in the first set. Then the long break maybe influenced the result as we lost our concentration. Brazil played well in the next two sets. I hurt my foot in the third set, but it should be ready for tomorrow’s match.
