Dominicans open their U20 World Champs campaign with straight-set win

The Dominican Republic celebrate their perfect debut at FIVB U20 World Championship in Brno, Czech Republic.

Brno, Czech Republic, June 22, 2013 – Cold shower for host Czech Republic: In their duel with the Dominican Republic, the team of coach Marek Ondrej suffered a setback. In front of 1,300 spectators, the Caribbean stormed to a spectacular straight-set win (25-13, 25-22, 25-20). 

Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez led the Dominican Republic with 15 points while Pamela Marie Soriano Olivo contributed another nine points. For the Czech Republic, Michaela Mlejnkova compiled 13 kills.

The Dominican Republic jumped out for a perfect debut at 2013 FIVB Women’s U20 World Champs in Brno. In the first set, the model athletes from the Caribbean Islands rocked the Kajot Arena with a well-balanced offense play and great defence actions. The Czechs came closer in the second set (25-22), but could not prevent their opponents from a well-deserved 2-0 set lead. The Dominican Republic continued their run in the third set with Gaila Gonzalez Lopez closing it out at 25-20 with a powerful spike from the right side.  

The Dominican Republic will face Peru on Sunday while the Czech Republic enjoy a rest day.
