FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

Press release

We knew how we could win, says Egypt captain

We studied the Algerian block and service and we knew which Algerian player to focus on, said Egypt captain Farida El Askalany after their straight-set win over Algeria today.

Brno, Czech Republic, June 21, 2013 – Egypt coach Hesham Badrawy was happy with the performance of his team. He said the first match is never easy to play:

Egypt coach Hesham Badrawy: It was a difficult match from the beginning. We started to play well after the first set. However, it was the first match, so it was a very good performance. I believe that we will play even better in the next matches.

Egypt captain Farida El Askalany: We played with Algeria four times in the last weeks so we knew how we could win. We studied the Algerian block and service. We knew which player to focus on.

Algeria coach Saidani Aimed Eddine: I am not very happy. We played not very well today. I said to the girls how they should play – where they should attack and serve – but they could not handle it. We have to improve our tactics.

Algeria captain Sarah Akroun: I am very sad because I was very ambitious for this match. We lost against Egypt in the African championship, so we aimed for a revenge. Nevertheless, it did not happen.
