Twenty teams ready to shine at Women’s U20 World Champs

The twenty team delegations playing at the FIVB Women's U20 World Championship met tonight in hotel Voronez for the general technical meeting

Brno, Czech Republic, June 20, 2013 - One day before the official start of the 2013 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship in Brno, Czech Republic, the twenty team delegations met tonight in hotel Voronez for the general technical meeting. All teams have safely arrived in the Czech Republic where the organizers provide a perfect platform for the next generation of stars to display their skills and potentially take the big step into the giant world of the senior ranks.

The competition features a revised format having been expanded from 16 to 20 teams comprising the hosts and 19 qualifiers. Italy go into the competition as defending champions after they defeated Brazil in the 2011 final for their first gold medal in the history of the tournament. Brazil, champions in six occasions, will be out to make up for that loss, but 2011 bronze medallists China will also be confident off claiming the gold for themselves.

First round action gets under way on Friday with sixteen teams entering the much-awaited competition in Czech Republic. Four pools (A, B, C, D) will be composed of five teams each. In each pool the teams will play a round robin system to determine the ranking and will be classified from 1st – 5th. The 1st – 4th ranked team of each pool will move to the eight finals and the fifth ranked of each pool will move to the play-off round for the 17th – 20th position (round robin).
