Cuban coach expects a better result next time

Cuba's Osmani Uriarte (14) had a match-high 28 points in the victory over France

Tijuana, Mexico, July 13, 2013 – Rodolfo Sanchez was happy but not satisfied after his Cuba team defeated France for the seventh place.

The Cuban coach had hopes for a better position in the tournament but promised to be better next time they participate in an age-group world event.

Ricardo Calvo, captain of Cuba:
“I think it was a good match for both teams. I feel good about today’s victory but at the same time I think we should have done better.”

Thomas Nevot, captain of France: “I am disappointed we were not able to finish at a better position. During the match we didn’t do many things.”

Rodolfo Sanchez, coach of Cuba: “It was difficult for us to play with a good team like France. We were able to win the first two sets but then we couldn’t close the fourth. In the tiebreaker the guys played with courage and won it. I am not satisfied with the general results but we need to take the good things. This is not the last championship for my team and I hope we will be better next time.”

Slimane Belmadi, coach of France:
“Today we had difficulties in the first two sets. The strong offense of Cuba in the tie-breaker was the difference. You can’t allow them to take a big advantage because then you have to win almost all the points.”
