Ambassador of Algerian Journalism


Amel Bouazza covered the FIVB Boys' U19 World Championship as accompanying journalist of the Algerian team in Mexico.

Mexicali, Mexico, July 7 2013 – Amel Bouazza was one of the international journalists accredited to cover the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship in the Mexican región of Baja California.


Bouazza who is from Algeria, was assigned to follow all the activities and matches of his country’s National Team that competed in the City of Mexicali. 


Enthusiasm and professionalism were part of her personality as well as her love and passion for interviews. During press conferences her help was fundamental to share the message of coaches and players from the North African countries with  the Control Committee and Mexican media.


She is fluent in four languages Arabic, English, French and Spanish. This was her first international coverage for “Planete Sport”, a French-written newspaper based in Algeria that shared many details about the Age Group Championship in Northern Mexico.


“This has been a very wonderful experience,” said Bouazza, who is only 24 years old. “This is my first trip to cover a sport event. I learned many things.”


This long journey from Africa to the so called “Last corner of Latin America”, has made her grow up in many ways.


“As a journalist and also as a human being this has been something great for me,” She added. “I’ve learned how to work in a competition, but also I have met and known people from other countries as well as some new things about other cultures.”


Amel earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Languages. She also studied English and Spanish at the Lyceum and spent seven years studying Journalism.


“Spanish is my favorite language. I love to speak it, so I decided to study it at the Cervantes Institute in Alger,” She remarked.


In the beginning of her young career She wanted to cover cultural events, but there was an opportunity to follow sports. “You have to try everything in this life, I said why not. We don’t know what We could really like.”


She has enjoyed this journey and wants to keep on improving her work. She qualifies it as a passion. “It lets me know a little bit more of me, to develop my personality and to discover more things about my country by standing closer to people,” She explained.


People in Algeria is so passionate about sports. “I have had the chance to cover football, volleyball and fencing, for example,” reminds Amel, whose first international assignment was in Mexico. 


“I really loved this trip. People is very gentile, and warm, they have made me feel very well and I was very excited when I received the opportunity to travel to this country.”


She appreciated the support of her teachers of the Cervantes Institute, the Lyceum and also her colleagues of "Planete Sport" and her own family. 


During the competition Amel wrote stories and interviews about the Algerian team and also shared some details of the competition to the North African nation readers.
