FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

Great learning experience for Turkey and USA

Yigit Gulmezoglu of Turkey scored 25 points for his team.

Mexicali, Mexico, July 7 2013 - The FIVB Boys' U19 World Championship was a very important stage for preparation and development for young players such as Turkish and American captains, Yigit Gulmezoglu and Christian Blough who played their last match at Mexicali State Auditorium on Sunday.

For American Blough the World Championship was his second experience South of the Border, after He played one year ago at the Norceca Age Group Qualifier in Tijuana. At this age many players from USA are at the High School level and still in a formation process.

For Gulmezoglu who plays at the Arkas Sport Club in Turkish League, as well as for his national age group team, every match was important as part of his team learning curve and was also a great opportunity of preparation for Turkey's next commitment.

Yigit Gulmezoglu, captain of Turkey:  "This match was important for us, and also to finish with a victory, because this will help us as preparation for the European Youth Olympic Festival."

Ali Kazi Hidayetoglu, coach of Turkey: "This was our last match. We wanted to close it very well and could with with a lot of energy. We have our next commitment by the middle of this month in Netherlands and the World Championship helped us as preparation."

Colin McMillan, coach of USA: "I think the match was very uneven on both teams.Playing early has an effect and both teams were unable to sustain momentum in a long period of time. The experience in the world championship has been great for the players. They learned a lot how the game is played in the rest of the world and to compete at that level.

Christian Blough, captain of USA: “This match was definitively rough for us. We came in with high expectations. I don’t think we were ready to play on the first two sets. On the other two sets we fought hard. In the experience we got I don’t think we could ask for anything much better at our age than a high level volleyball.”
