South American classic for fifth place

Brazil registered 16 blocks in the match against France

Tijuana, Mexico, July 6, 2013 – The classic South American duel of Argentina versus Brazil will be resumed in Tijuana in the match for fifth place of the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship.

Argentina needed five sets to win their match against Cuba while Brazil had to play four sets before booking the win against France on Saturday.

Fabio Rodrigues, captain of Brazil: “France is a team with big attackers and we didn’t start the way we should have so we lost a disappointing first set. Then we recovered with a good vibration and won the rest of the sets.”

Thomas Nevot, captain of France: “We played good for moments and played bad for other moments. We didn’t have the consistency to play at the good level.”

Percy Oncken, coach of Brazil: “the world championship provides us the opportunity to see friends who have been coaching in volleyball for many years which is the case of the French coach. We had a bad start but then the team looked motivated and we took the win. Now we are going against Argentina in a classic duel of South America.”

Slimane Belmadi, coach of France: “Brazil is Brazil, is a nation of volleyball, and it is very important for France to play against a team like that. We had a very strong first set with good serves and good blocks but after that we made many mistakes and it was not the same. When we had good moments we were behind in the score. We could have taken the third set, but the players had the name of Brazil in their minds.”
