China win big battle and match with Brazil

China's setter Yu Yaochen received accolades from the Brazilian opponents

Tijuana, Mexico, July 5, 2013 – China won the big battle of the first set, at 34-32 the longest in the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship so far, and never looked back in the quarterfinals match against Brazil.

The South Americans praised the fast offensive combinations of the Asian team and also the ability of their setter.

Fabio Rodrigues, captain of Brazil: “China played a spectacular game and they have a great setter (Yu Yaochen). They played with too fast combinations and we couldn’t defend well. I think that was the fundamental key of this match.”

Yu Yaochen, captain of China: “Brazil is a very strong team with high level skills in serve and attack. We played with high spirit and very united and were able to establish our special style of play.”

Percy Oncken, coach of Brazil: “First of all we have to congratulate China. They played at a very high level and got the result. We lost a big opportunity in the first set that might have changed things. In the second and third sets we couldn’t put the pressure with the serves and they played without problems.”

Ju Genyin, coach of China: “I am very satisfied with the result. At the end of the first set I made some changes and the players made mistakes, but anyway we were able to win it. Brazil is a very strong team and I am very glad to have played against them. Our team played with confidence and we made the right things to win.”
