Chilean boys really surprised us: Rodolfo Sanchez

Cuba beat Chile on Monday to close Pool Phase in Mexicali. Both teams qualified to second round.

Mexicali, Mexico, July 1 2013 – Chile showed a great attitude as well as Cuba. Quality and team spirit on both sides of the net gave a special touch to this match.

Cuban blocking strategy marked the difference according to coach of Chile, Daniel Nejamkin, but for Cuba’s Rodolfo Sánchez, the South American youngsters have become a good sensation of this tournament in the final Pool Phase celebrated at State Auditorium.

Rodolfo Sanchez, coach of Cuba: "This is the first time I see Chile playing. They have really surprised us. They have very good players and have showed a good volleyball. We went out to follow our strategy, despite we had to play very early today.”

Daniel Nejamkin, coach of Chile: “Cuba had a good block, that was the key for this match. However, I think that Chile played very well and showed some good things. I wish a succesful second round for both teams.”

Dusan Bonacic, captain of Chile: “Congratulations to Cuba for this win. We could not find out the game we showed against Turkey and Japan. We knew it was going to be tough for us, but kept our hopes after winning on third set.”

Ricardo Calvo, captain of Cuba: “Both teams showed a great attitude. This match was also very important for the both of us. We're in next round and hope we can keep playing at this level.”
