Volleyball becomes social in Age Group Championships

Signs with the flags of competing teams appear inside the Press Room at Mexicali State Auditorium. Journalists from various countries have a powerful tool in social networks.

Baja California, Mexico, July 1 2013 — The celebration of FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship has brought and developed a new way to communicate and release many details that surround the organisation.

On and behind the scenes, fans from all over the world have the chance to follow their countries’ teams no matter how far they play or what time it could be.

Social networks have become important platforms for fans and even the media. Accredited journalists from many countries share their opinions and some facts about the teams they follow or travel with.

Interest has grown more in a year when five Age Group World Championships take or have taken place. In Czech Republic the Women’s U20 World Championship was followed by Twitter, Facebook or YouTube, for example.

Now, in the cities of Tijuana and Mexicali, journalists from Algeria, Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Cuba, Egypt, Japan, Korea Rwanda and host, Mexico, for example, post quick reports online of the matches played by their national teams.

But technology is not everything. Also people from different parts of the world and different culture have the chance to exchange their experiences. Coaches, athletes and volunteers are united by the spirit of volleyball.

Even the coaches have found in tournaments like this a great platform to live the values of a big family.

“A world championship is also a great opportunity to see many good friends you make, to exchange some ideas and talk about volleyball for hours and hours,” said Percy Oncken, head coach of the Brazilian Team.

During Women’s U20 World Championship in Czech Republic, there were many aspects shown behind the scenes in Brno. Now in Mexicali and Tijuana, there are also faces to show and stories to tell, write and post.
