To stop Russia was impossible mission

The tight and high blocking was one of the weapons of Russia against France

Tijuana, Mexico, June 29, 2013 – France’s coach Slimane Belmadi tried every formula trying to stop a furious Russia team but at the end he admitted that was an impossible mission, at least for today.

It was a combination of factors as Russia had its unit working with all cylinders and also made everything within their reach to give the opponents a single break. The result was a one-side victory.

Victor Poletaev, captain of Russia: “We had the experience of playing against France two months ago during the European Championship where they finished fifth. They have a very strong player No. 16 (Henry Mederic) and we tried by all our means to stop him. So we decided to locate our serves so they couldn’t organize their attack. Serve and block tactic was the key for us.”

Thomas Nevot, captain of France: “We knew Russia was a strong team and tried to the best of our possibilities but we couldn’t play. We had many problems blocking and it was very difficult.”

Alexander Karikov, coach of Russia: “Russian players did everything well. Serve, block and attack. I am very happy and satisfied for their performance in their second match. Now I want to think in our next match and I wish my colleague from France a good result in their next one.”

Slimane Belmadi, coach of France: “We know Russia team have a very good blocking system but today our players didn’t perform. I couldn’t find the six players to do well so it was something impossible today. We need to play perfect to have success against a team like that. That’s absolutely the truth.”
