Thailand's first win, 3-0 to Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico Ana Sofia Jusino blocked by Thailand Kaewkalaya Kamulthala

Brno, Czech Republic, June 29, 2013 – The second match of the day at Vodova hall in Brno, on Saturday, was the fourth match of the round robin for the classification 17-20: Thailand got their first win of the Women’s U20 World Championship with a 3-0 game (25-22, 25-20, 27-25) against Puerto Rico.

A back row attack error from Patricia Montero gave the first set to Thailand, giving immediately the impression that Puerto Rico, despite a much better block, suffered too much the defensive Asian style. Thailand showed their superiority as well in the second set, managing to dig the ball directly to their setter, having a better construction of counterattack.

The third set was more balanced: it was 25-all and the match looked still open for a comeback of Puerto Rico when a back quick attack from Thailand and a ball out of captain Pilar Marie Victoria decided the set and match. For Thailand, three points which enforce the team’s mood. On the other side, four players of Puerto Rico (Rojas, Montero, Miranda and Rivera) will have again Thailand twice in their agenda, since they are going to participate in the Girls’ U18 World Championship in Thailand; moreover, they will be in the same pool of the hosting team
