France took advantage of second chance

France's Aaron Koubi celebrates his contribution to the victory over Finland

Tijuana, Mexico, June 28, 2013 – Finn coach Pertti Honkanen blamed himself for not finding the right formula to stop a France team that caught fire after two very cold sets. Slimane Belmadi’s team received a second chance and took advantage of it.

The French boys rallied from a two-set deficit to score a five-set win while the boys from Finland suffered a second straight painful loss going to the set-limit.

Slimane Belmadi, coach of France: “I told my guys that you can’t waste the second chances and we played without mistakes after losing the first two sets against a Finland side that played with high spirit. We found the way to create an offensive impact.”

Perti Honkanen, coach of Finland: “I only can blame myself for not finding the solution to change the course of the match. Of course, France played great and earned the victory. At this moment I don’t have the words.”

Thomas Nevot, captain of France: “We played very good volleyball after the second set. We had a slow start but fortunately got our rhythm and got this important victory”.

Sakari Makinen, captain of Finland: “We played the best two sets in a long time. But they caught a good rhythm and we lost it. You can’t afford that against a team like France.”
