Tijuana, Mexico, February 14, 2013 - The FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship in the cities of Mexicali and Tijuana from June 27 to July 7, will be officially announced on Thursday at the Baja California High Performance Center in Tijuana.

The announcement at a press conference will be preceded by a meeting between the State's Governor of  Baja California, Jose Guadalupe Osuna, the President of the Mexican Olympic Committee, Carlos Padilla and the Director of Mexican National Sports Commission, Jesus Mena.

This will be the first official visit to Baja California by both Mena and Padilla as Mexico’s top official and private authorities. They will be received by Saul Castro, director of the state’s Sports and Physical Culture Institute and FIVB Executive Vice President.

It will be the fourth time that Baja California hosts an FIVB World Championship since 2007 and the fifth time the city of Tijuana is selected as host city for an FIVB competition.

In 1974, Tijuana along with Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla and Toluca hosted the FIVB Men’s World Championship won by Poland.

Since then, the border city with the United States, had to wait 33 years to receive another volleyball world class event when it was chosen with Mexicali for the Boys’ and Girls’ Youth World Championships in 2007, won by Iran and China respectively.

Two years later, in 2009, both Tijuana and Mexicali also figured as host cities in the FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship won by Germany.
