Egypt pull away from the pack

In their second game, Egypt's block again proved too much for their opponents

Sétif, Algeria, January 25, 2013 – With six points after two games, Egypt have taken a commanding lead in the 2013 Boys’ Youth African Nations Championship. They came another step closer to earning the continental title Thursday evening with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-12) victory over host country Algeria at the Salle 8 mai 45 in Sétif.

It was the second day of competition in this 12th edition of the event. Mohamed  Ellankany’s Egyptian charges and Sid Ahmed Ghmari’s Algerian squad put on an exciting show with sparkling plays spread over 138 minutes. Algeria’s Larbi Hedroug and Egypt’s Hany Mohamed gave stand-out performances.

As on day one, Egypt’s serving and blocking were exceptional.

In the day’s other match, Tunisia beat Rwanda 3-0 (25-16, 28-26, 25-16) in 113 minutes. With the win, the Tunisian squad recover somewhat from their straight-sets loss to Egypt on the first day of competition. Malek Anis’ team were more efficient on the serve than their Rwandan opponents, who showed their best form only in the 28-minute second set.
