We learned a lot how to play taller rivals, says Thai coach

Head coaches and team captains of Slovenia and Thailand during the post-match press conference

Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, August 3, 2013 – Thailand’s head coach Apichat Kongsawat said that it was a good match against Slovenia and his team learned a lot about playing taller rivals. Following are quotes from head coaches and team captains of Slovenia and Thailand.

Joze Casar, coach of Slovenia: “It’s a good match. We started well. We are so tired as we played in the European Youth Olympics where we finished first among the eight best European teams, just one week before this tournament. In this match, the first two sets were even, but we played a bit better. Thailand came back stronger in the next two sets. We did not get familiar with playing the Asian team as they always came up with fast attacks. I would like to congratulate them on their good job against us in this match.”

Eva Mori, team captain of Slovenia: “We played first and second sets as well as we could and Thailand came back in great form in third set. We started well with good serves and blocks in the fifth set which caused Thailand difficulties. They could not catch up with us. That’s what counts.”

Apichat Kongsawat, coach of Thailand: “we are friends as we met before in a Peru tournament. We lost the first two sets, but we came back in the next two sets. In the fifth set, Slovenia started with good serves and blockings. We could not catch up with them. We learned a lot how to play the taller rivals. It’s a good match.”

Patcharaporn Sittisad, team captain of Thailand: “Slovenia played well, while our form did not live up to the staff coach’s expectation. We lost concentration and failed to continue our fight with good form. We have one more match to go and we will try our best for that match.
