Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, July 23, 2013 - Thailand is counting down to the start of the 2013 FIVB Girls U18 World Championship due to start in Nakhon Ratchasima on Friday July 26 and continue until August 4.

The competition is the first to be held with 20 teams. The Pool A and C matches will be held at the Chartchai Hall, which can seat 5,000 spectators, while the Lipatapanlop Hall with its seating capacity of 2,000 people will host the Pool B and C matches.

More than 200 volunteers are working on the final preparations before the start of the competition.

Host team Thailand played a friendly match against favourites Poland as part of final preparations for the tournament.

"We are looking forward to have a successful competition at the organisational level and in terms of the outcome of our team in front of our home crowd," said Thailand coach, Kongsawat Apichat.
"We have a lot of objectives here but mainly we want to finish in the top 10 and we want to perform well - at least better than at the continental championship when we finished fifth."

Four out of the six previous winners of the Championship will be taking part in Nakhon Ratchasima, with the record holders Brazil and China (three crowns each) leading the way, followed by Japan (two titles) and Turkey (one), while the only absentees from the winners are Russia and Korea.

The opening ceremony will be attended by a number of guests of honour led by Mr Suwat Lipatapallop (former deputy Prime Minister), Mr Winai Buapradit (Governor of the Nakhon Ratchasima province) and Mr Sub Lt Ranongruk (President of the Nakhon Ratchasima Administrative Organisation).
