Puerto Rico moved to the second round.
Puerto Rico advanced to the round of the 5th to 8th positions with an astonishing victory over the Dominican Republic. Despite the loss of Yarimar Rosa due to a hand fracture in the third set, the Puerto Ricans showed excellent floor defence and Sarai Alvarez scored 19 leading their attack.

Italy beat Egypt by wide margin
As expected, Italy easily defeated Egypt. It was an overpowering performance by the Italians with all three sets almost decided at the first technical time-out when the Europeans champions led 8-2 on each occasion.

China finished unbeaten in Pool B
China defeated Russia in consecutive sets advancing to the final four in Ankara with an unbeaten record. The Chinese commanded the scoreboard most of the time and despite the titanic effort of the Russian team in the last two sets, the Asian side proved to be the better team
