China dominated a Puerto Rican Team that played a very consistent first set but could not maintain that level the rest of the match. The service and blocking of China was too strong and was the key for the Chinese in the second and third sets.

Italy won the battle between Europeans
Italy saved six Russians' set-points chances during a sensational battle in the first set and went on to win the hard fought match between the two European squads of Pool B. The pair of Lucia Crisanti and Sandra Vitez mixed their blocks and spikes as key players for the Italian triumph.
