China won the bronze medal in Women's U20 World Championships beating Italy 3-2 in the match for the third place.
Both teams started the match ambitiously. Chinese, which kept their nerves and played in a more relaxed way, jumped out to a 12-7 lead constraining the Italian coach to call a time-out, but he couldn't prevent his team stay behind for the rest of the set. Improving to a 16-10 lead via an ace from Yu Zhao, China maintained its consistency pushing its opponent to make a number of errors and clinched the set 25-19.
Italy returned to the game in the second set leading the score 8-6 by a block by Ilaria Garzaro. Taking the command and advancing to 16-10, Italy never looked back with the kills by Sandra Vitez, the best scorer (26), and gained the one-sided set 25-16.
Regaining its confidence, Italy began the third set at a fast tempo leading 8-4. With a five-point rally, Chinese went ahead 9-8 by two blocks from Meng Yin and the gap grew up to 16-10 again with her block kill. Italy fought hard to catch its rival, but China was determined to the victory and won the set 25-19
The two opponents tried to take the control in the fourth set and fought point by point. The first 4-point gap was in favor of Italy at 17-13 by spikes and two aces from Vitez. Performing very well, Italy dominated from there on and Vitez closed the set 25-19.
Italy could not maintain their concentration in the last set and China dominating the game from the beginning gained the set 15-12 and claimed the bronze medal. Yu Zhao was the best scorer for her team with 17 points.
