Serbia and Montenegro is rival of Brazil for the gold
Serbia and Montenegro, the pleasant surprise of the Junior Women's U20 World Championships, overpowered China 3-1 and became the second finalist. Serbians crashed China, the Champion of Asia, in a very strong match and booked a place on the podium for the first time in their history.
Both teams strived hard trying to take control and fighting point by point in the first set. China advanced to 8-7 with a spike by Yu Zhou and 16-15 with an ace from Meng Yin, but Serbians never let their opponent escape and gained the set 25-23 by the hands of Sanja Hanusic with two kills.
The second set was more one-sided in favor of China. When the margin grew up to 11-7, Kovacic Zoran took a timeout, but he couldn't stop their rival improving to 16-9 via an ace of Qiuyue Wei. Though the vice champion of Europe narrowed the gab 16-13, China found its rhythm back earlier and took the set 25-17.
The winner started the third set highly concentrated and continued its powerful play during the whole set. Jovana Vesovic, the best scorer (25), carried her team to 8-4, 16-7 leads with her kills in row. Chinese didn't find a gap in the Serbians block and were not able to score against the well-organized defense. Ana Jaksic closed out the set 25-9 with a spike.
Meng Yin, the best scorer (15) for China improved her team to an 8-5 lead in the third set. The team of Serbia and Montenegro answered back with Vesovic and locked the score at 10-all. When Ana Jaksic served out, China went ahead again at 16-15. The Balkan team took the lead over, did not give it back until the final whistle and won the set 25-20.
