With the result, Russia share the lead of the group with India, with three points each. Defeated in their first matches, Egyptian and German have no points for now.
Russian wing spiker Leonid Shchadilov was the main scorer of the match, with 15 points. Egyptian captain Moustafa Idris scored 10 points. Russia held a wide margin in the blocking category 13-2.
The difference between the Europeans and Africans was clear since the beginning of the match as the Russians had an early 4-0 lead, followed by an 8-1 advantage in the first technical timeout when opposite Andrey Kolesnik spiked powerfully. Managing to keep the safe lead, the Russian closed the first set in an error of the rivals: 25-16.
In the second frame, the match followed the same script, with Russia prevailing in spiking and blocking. With wing spiker Leonid Shchadilov playing a good match, the Europeans had a 16-10 lead in the second technical timeout. In the end, Shchadilov spiked from the backcourt to repeat the score of the first set: 25-16.
Egypt had it best moment in the match in beginning of the third set, when the Africans scored 6-4. Russia, however, quickly reacted, scoring 10-8 in a block point of Igor Filippov and reassumed the control of the match. With several blocks, the Russian scored 16-10 before closing the match in 25-13 in a mistake of Egypt.
Russia will be back on court this Tuesday, when Russia face India at 10:00 a.m. In the same day, Egypt will look forward their rehabilitation against Germany at 12:30.
