Lima, Peru, July 24, 2011 - In the third match of the FIVB Volleyball Women´s Junior World Championship Peru 2011 held Sunday at Lima, China beat Dominican Republic 25-23, 25-21, 25-23. Both teams entered the contest 2-0 in Pool D already qualified for the top eight second round, but today China finishes the first round atop the standings as the match was played at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum.
The top scorer of the winning team was Qi Wang with 17 points, next to Zhou Yang with 15 points (she had been one of the top scorers in the other two matches that China played). The top scorer of Dominican Republic was Elizabeth Martinez with 13 points, next to Marianne Fersola and Ana Binet with 10 points each.

In the first set, Dominican Republic started the set winning 5-3, but a block mistake gave the ball to China and they reached the first technical time out with a one-point difference in favor of the Asian team. Dominican Republic started to recover the game and the second technical time out came with 16-13 lead to the Dominicans. After that, China´s game improved and the score was 16-16 thanks to the serve of Qi wang (six points in the set). The game continued tight and China was on top just for two points. With the blocking of Candida Arias (three points in the set), the Dominican Republic team tied the score at 20-20. The teams traded the next three points, but China took the ball back thanks to Huimin Wang´s spike (three points in the set). Zhou Yang (three points in the set) defined the game with a serve to 25-23 in 27 minutes.
The second set started tight again, but the Chinese team took for itself the match and was ahead at the fist technical time out with a four-point difference. When the score was 10-6 in favor of China, Dominican Republic coach asked for the team´s first time out. Dominican Republic started to get closer to China, whose coach Jiande Xu asked for their first time out. In this moment the match started to tighten again, but China became ahead. Huiming Wang´s spike (three points in the set) was the key for the 16-10 China lead in the second technical time out. Dominican Republic started to increase the point difference thanks to Arias´ spike (three points in the set) to 21-20 in favor her team. Dominican Republic kept trying to attack China´s dig, but the blocks and the spikes of the Asian team were stronger. The set ended in 25-21 in 28 minutes.
In the third set, Dominican Republic showed a stronger game than before. The score was tied at 5-5 because of a bad reception of Zhou Yang. China was ahead just for one point at the second technical time out. China started to dig Dominican Republic's attacks and Yeniffer Ramirez serve the point for the second technical time out to 16-12. China started to improve their game and reached to 19-18. Then, they got the tie and thanks to Wang´s block they were one point ahead. Dominican Republic tried to hang in, but the China block was even stronger. The set ended 25-23 with Wang´s serve in 28 minutes.
