Lima, Peru, July 24, 2011 - The second match of the third day of the FIVB Volleyball Women´s Junior World Championship Peru 2011 in Lima was a 25-13, 25-15, 25-21 Brazil victory over Cuba at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum.
Brazil finished Pool B with a 3-0 record and a maximum nine points, while Cuba lost their third match of the first round. Brazil concluded Pool B on top and advances to the top eight.
The top scorers of Brazil were Samara Almeida and Gabriela Souza with 14 points each; while Sthefanie Paulino and Marjorie Correa scored eight points each. The top scorer of Cuba was Sulian Matienzo with 12 points, next to Regla Gracia González with 11 points. Brazil held a 14-3 margin in blocks while Cuba also committed 24 errors to stop momentum.

At the beginning of the first set, the match was close. Brazil started with two points ahead with Priscila Heldes´ serves (three points in the set), but Cuba’s team recovered until Brazil reached the 6-3 mark. Pupo Robinson, Cuban coach, asked for the first time out and they improved their performance. However, Brazil reached the first technical time out with a point difference of four. Although Cuba was trying to improve, Brazil did better and went in front 14-7. After a tight match, Brazil took back the ball and Marjorie Correa’s attack (two points in the set) gave the 16-9 advantage to Brazil. The point difference was at six when Cuba coach asked for the second time out but Brazil continued with good serves and blocks 19 minutes.
In the second set, both teams started evenly and the first technical time of this set came with a small difference of two points in favor of Brazil. Brazil started to get better and extended the difference to 16-7 with the serves of Samara Almeida (seven points in the set) and a bad spike of Cheila Cardona (two points in the set). After the second technical time out, Brazil maintained the score difference and Cuba coach asked for his second time out to the 20-9. Cuba started to improve with Heidy Rodriguez’s attacks (three points in the set), but it was not enough to overtake Brazil, who had a huge advantage at 24-12. The set finished at the 25-12 in 20 minutes.
In the third set, the first serve of Brazil was an error so Cuba started ahead. After two attacks from Yunieska Robles (three points in the set), Brazil recovered the ball and did better reaching the 5-4 advantage. Brazil maintained their level and the first technical time out came with the 8-4 score. After this, Cuba started to improve. The bad reception from Robles gave Brazil a 12-8 advantage. The score difference was four points until the second technical time out. Cuba started with two points from Heidy Rodriguez (three points in the set) and reduced the score difference to two. Sulian Matienzo (six points in the set) scored three points for Cuba and tied Brazil. Brazil recovered and Cuba coach asked for his first time out. However, Almeida’s attack (four points in the set) reached the 24-21. Brazil won the match to 25-21 in 25 minutes after a bad service of Matienzo.
