Team profile |
|
Kenya is one of the leading countries in Women's Volleyball in Africa. The senior team has participated in several global competitions, including the Olympics, World Cup and World Championships, while the junior team has taken part in the World Championships.
The country, which is endowed with natural athleticism and does well in many sports disciplines, has in the past shown a lot of promise in volleyball, with glimpses of individual brilliance. That said, it is obvious that its potential has remained largely unexploited.
A dark horse in Mexico and with nothing to lose, the Kenyan team will use the competition to gain valuable experience and international exposure. It might spring a few surprises if it can find its rhythm.

Coach profile |
|
Paul Bitok, who holds a coaching diploma from Hungary and
an FIVB Level II Coaching Certificate, is a former international player who had
professional stints in Tunisia and Croatia.
Bitok was assistant coach of the Kenya Senior Women's
Team that participated in the 2005 World Volleyball Championship in Japan and
coached the KCB Women's Team that won the Africa Cup of Champions Clubs held in
Mauritius in 2006. He is currently the coach of APR Club of Rwanda.
Bitok intends to use the Mexico Championship to rebuild
the fortunes of Kenya's women's volleyball, which had shown so much potential a
few years ago.
"We will give the tournament our best effort,"
Bitok says.
