Niterói, Brazil, August 1, 2011 – Spain didn’t have a difficult time on their opening game participation of the FIVB Volleyball Men´s Junior World Championship 2011, at Caio Martins Gymnasium, facing Tunisia earlier this afternoon. The Spanish team won 3 – 0 (14-25, 18-25, 17-25).
Spain's Jorge Almansa was the best player of the game, scoring 15 points. Now Spain is tied with Argentina on the lead of Pool B of the competition.
Spain’s Jorge Almansa led all scorers with 15 points on 12 spikes, one block and two aces. Francisco Ruiz added 13 points on 12 attacks and one ace. Racem Siala paced Tunisia with 10 points on eight kills and two blocks.
On the first set, the Spanish squad faced some resistance from Tunisia, who scored three aces in a row. But after that, the Spanish boys took the lead of the game, and scored 14-25, in 20 minutes. Jorge Almansa was the best player for Spain, scoring 8 points, while Racen Sialia was the best for Tunisia.
After a long starting rally, Spain scored with a reception mistake of Tunisia, which tied right after, on the beginning of the second set. Throughout the set, the Spanish block worked very well, and by taking advantage of the opponent mistakes, they won 18-25. Both teams scored 12 points from the opponent’s mistakes. Racen Siala, Mohamed Ayech and Ben Othmen Miladi scored 4 points each, being the best players for Tunisia.
Short, but efficient, Fernando Ruiz was one of the best Spanish players, with his powerful strikes and efficient blocks. Together with Jorge Almasa, Ruiz was one of the best players in the game, scoring 10 points alone. The third set was dominated by their attacks and defense, adding up the several mistakes.
Tomorrow, Spain will meet Puerto Rico, at 10 am and Tunisia plays Argentina, at 12:30 pm.
